The Mama - Baby Date

We headed out of the house on a much needed adventure last week. It was a holiday of sorts- a mama baby holiday and on that day we did whatever we wanted.

That included stopping at a baseball field because Onyx wanted to get out of his car seat. He loathes that thing. Many babies find it to be safe, peaceful place but not Onyx. He can't be tamed.

So we did some (I hold his hands) walking around the field. He stopped and stared at every logging truck, school bus and diesel engine vehicle that zoomed by. How does that happen by the way? How are you just born such a boy? Such a little man-boy? Jared and I have no interest in cars at all and it's just in  him. It's bizarre! He is also really big into super heros right now, more specifically, Superman. Why? How does he know  who Superman is? I guess we'll never understand. I'll just have to embrace it I suppose. At least he loves animals. Now that  I can do and understand. I love that he is different from us. It will help all of us grow.

Once he got a sufficient amount of wiggles out we headed for the mall. I've been wanting to find him a good sun-shading hat for a while now. Since he is a round (biggish) headed baby, (thanks to his big skulled dad ;] )I  have a harder time with this.

Here we are in the mall's bathroom to wash our hands for lunch. I couldn't tell you why but that place scares the tears outta that ^ boy. Jared's best, most obvious answer was that the bathroom is located on an Indian burial ground. Yup, that must be it.

Onyx's "adult" lunch. I only say it was an adult lunch because only adults should make the poor choice to only have cookies for lunch. He seemed to enjoy it though ;P

There was really nothing on my veggie sammy that he would have liked, so I figured, cookies it is. Well, cookies and milk anyway...

Next we headed off to the kids play area. It's so cool that I can go to one of these with my little one now! I love being his mom!

I could not pry him from the circus mirror. As it warped his face into blobby shapes he kept giggling and reaching out to high five that goofy lookin' kid.

...Did I say kid? I meant baby, I mean he still is a baby right? Kinda... It's leaving him though. I can see it.

Next we went into a photobooth and got some pictures for Jared. I figured he could use it as a bookmark in a mushroom book or something. Thoughtful? Maybe. Fun? Yes.

Speaking of fun, how sweet is this? I just put him in and he started to drive! We never taught him that! Smarty McFarty Pants.

We headed to Target (I could live there!) after we bought his new pirate ball cap. This picture makes me laugh. It looks like he has a giant twin. I could do that. I could have another, only if that baby was as lovely as this one.

I also may or may not have started picking up birthday supplies for him. Seven months has gone by fast you know! His party is going to be Dr. Seuess's "The Lorax" themed. Lots of cotton candy and little bears will be involved. You have been warned ;)

I am so glad we got out of the house.

29 Reasons I Love Being Onyx's Mom

(In no particular order ;) )

1. I have to be a morning person, and I've been missing out. Mornings are actually quite lovely.
2. It has helped me to reprioritize my life.
(Do I really need to keep running back and forth, checking for status updates and likes? No.)
3. Playing with Onyx gives me a reason to use our camera more often.
4. Since having a baby, Jared has grown in his heart in the most pleasant sort of way.

5. I am someone's shelter.
6. It might be the most rewarding feeling in the world when I watch Onyx accomplish something.
7. Now somebody  likes my awkward dance moves. ;)
8. Being a mom has made me more crafty since I like to make him little things, or props for photo shoots.

9. I have everything ready the night before.
10. There have been so many times I have fallen back into God's hands when things get tough, when normally I would have a "I can do this all by myself, thank you very much" sort of attitude.
11. It's helped my sister in-law and I bond over our boys.
12. I've learned to accept that changing your mind a million times is okay, even if you say your choices out  loud, only to take them back.

13. Folding baby clothes makes doing laundry not so bad.
14. It's brought new strength to my and Jared's relationship.
15. Hearing Jared say he is proud of the mother I've become, ooooh, that friends, is sooo good.
16. Knowing that I am responsible for a little person's life has given me more confidence.

17. My body has never been so amazing. (I grew a baby y'all!)
18. My life has so much more purpose.
19. It's helped me swallow my pride and ask for help. I can't do everything alone!
20. I've learned to embrace the natural beauty of myself since I really don't have an hour to get ready in the mornings anymore.

21. It has given me a new found wonder and respect for Onyx's grandparents. (How did  they do it?)
22. We make cute babies!
23. Onyx doesn't mind when I sing out of tune.
24. Drying baby clothes on a line makes my heart happy.

25. It's helped me to be more patient.
26. I have another someone to can food for. (Yay! Garden fresh peas!)
27. I have someone to play ukulele for and he appreciates it even though I can't play.
28. He makes me cry out of happiness (My m.i.l would say "It's those mama horomones!" ;] )
29. I am better at being HERE - NOW, since I can only be in that one moment for that exact time. Oh I wish I could bottle it up. Even during the sleepless nights, the teething pains and constantly being wet via drool, spit-up, pee or who-knows-what, I love being a mama.

And of course we're ending just where we started. Baby Feet.

What Did I Do Today?

How am I exhausted if I hardly got anything done?

I'll give you a hint. He's teething, emotional, and currently a total mama's boy.

So we just played all day today.

There is so much laundry to be done. I really ought to get gardening. The pantry needs to be organized, and not just for me. Jared pointed out that the tea and Captain Crunch are the only things easily accessible.  Hmmm tea and cereal? Not me. I didn't do that. Nope ;)

We decided we looked better without glasses.  >Big< decisions, you know.

We talked a lot. Or I mostly listened as he told me the woes of teething.

 We had a good day.

Slime.

These last couple days I have felt so yucky and there is really no other way to describe it. I've had a horrible headache with body aches galore. Onyx had a lot of "snuggle-on-the-floor" with mommy time since I couldn't even hardly pick him up, but I am feel like I am riding the end of the yuck wave today. THANK GOODNESS.

Some good came of it however! Onyx has been rolling all over, since he mastered the 360° full belly roll. I think the two days straight of floor playing time really helped him focus. Now I can't let him sit or lay where he used too. It's weird how your parenting style has to constantly change since your child is constantly changing. A good friend of mine came over with her wee toddler a few days ago and she was telling me about how adaptable you have to be. Along with being kind, patient, and loving you really have to learn to be an adaptable parent. She's a good mom with lot's of good advice.

I am proud of my little roller.
Now to just get through teething. ^ Until then, you can call him Slime.

Indoor Picnic

We set up a perfect little indoor picnic since the weather outdoors is INSANE right now. It's so windy it sounds like the walls are going to rip apart! ... Then it's sunny... Then it's hailing. And so goes the weather here in Washington.

After setting Onyx down in his little blue chair I ran to the other room to tie my hair up. I ran back in and it was the first time I ever saw the look of guilt on his face. It was probably the first time he experienced it! Tsk Tsk!  He pulled the apple sauce jar over to himself, knocked it over, scooped it into his hands and was eating it off his chubby fingers.

After I picked up the camera to snap a few pic's of the sneaky little bub, he assumed it was safe to keep eating. It was too cute. I couldn't stop him.

He took a super bubbley bath (kid was so sticky by the time he had his fill!) then we went on our daily walk. We said "Bye" to the cats and started on our way. The trip began with sun glasses on and it ended in us running home in a total black sky-down pour.

And so was the the tale of our day. Nothing too exciting, just some apple sauce and photogenic kitties.
It was a good, easy day.
